Video converters, at their most basic, convert and reformat signals

from one video interface for another type of video interface.

A scaler with scan conversion technology, however, samples the input

signal at full resolution and converts the image into a signal suitable for

display on a TV or an HDTV. Resolution matches the native resolution

of the connected display.

Usually, the scaling involves “upconverting” the signal so the resolution

is accurately framed for a newer display type. The actual scaling is a

process where the number of display pixels is mapped and adjusted to

accurately match the display’s resolution. Deinterlacing technology with

advanced motion compensation intelligently scales the source signal to

the desired resolution with virtually no artifacts or distortion.
