systems, such as Windows

3.x/Windows 95, 98 and Windows

NT™, and Windows 2000, do not

give applications direct control

over hardware devices.

Applications must make calls to a

driver substructure. Therefore,

features not supported by existing

drivers, such as RS-485, are very

difficult to implement because

lower-level I/O handling is

required.

In operating systems that don’t

have a standard driver to support

RS-485 communications, you

need to provide the driver

development. What’s worse, once

a driver is developed, it must be

maintained to support subsequent

releases of the operating system.

RS-422/485 SERIAL INTERFACE PLUS

However, the RS-422/

485 Serial Interface Plus

automatically handles low-level

RS-485 driver maintenance via

hardware. Therefore, initial

development can be targeted for

RS-232, debugged, tested, and

then implemented as RS-485. The

RS-422/485 Serial Interface Plus

was designed for simple

integration of RS-485 networks—

with little or no programming

changes—within Windows,

Windows NT, and other protected-

mode operating systems.

The RS-422/485 Serial

Interface Plus comes in 1- and 2-

Port models. A 2-Port model with

Optical Isolation is also available.

Optical Isolation eliminates the

effects of spikes, surges, and

ground differences to protect

communications devices

connected to the PC.

Choose from 16550 or 16850

UARTs. Cards with the 16550

UART feature a 16-byte FIFO and

run at speeds of up to 115.2 kbps.

Cards with the 16850 UART have a

128-byte FIFO and operate at

sustained speeds of up to

460.8 kbps.
