ADVANCED DISC NAVIGATOR
The advanced Disc Navigator interface
with improved response time on all
Pioneer DVD Recorders, uses a
thumbnail image menu to guide users
through the various playback functions.
By selecting a thumbnail image, the
corresponding title starts playing within
the thumbnail frame, complete with
sound playback. This means that users
can easily recognize which programme
they have recorded.
Note: For ‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’ discs,
this feature can only be used as long as the
disc has not yet been finalised.
ALL THE FEATURES OF A PIONEER DVD-VIDEO PLAYER
Full-fledged home cinema is a simple matter of connecting the DVD recorder to a
Dolby Digital/DTS compatible amplifier/receiver and a multi-channel A/V surround
speaker system. The listener is immersed in incredible surround sound* and
special effects of the latest films. All DVD recorders play back CDs, CD-R and
CD-RW discs, VideoCDs and SVCD. Additionally, all DVD recorders can handle the
latest formats like MP3 and WMA files recorded on CD-R/CD-RW. They also include
a JPEG PhotoViewer for enjoying digital camera images.

FRAME ACCURATE EDITING
Customers demand precision and that’s what they get with a Hard Disk Drive or
DVD-RW discs in ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording Mode)’. Using the Disc
Navigator, users can easily select the precise frame to delete a part on the
Chapter Edit Screen. This is a handy way to delete, for example, unwanted
commercials. It is simple to see where
an edit starts and ends — on-screen —,
to preview final results and to even
make a Play List based on the same
content.
Operation response time is first rate on the new DVD recorders. Pioneer engineers
developed the DVD recorders so that functions, such as initialising, playback after
power up and recording finalization, are performed as fast as possible. For
example, it only takes a breeze from the moment you turn the power on until the
image is on-screen and sound can be heard.

OTHER VERSATILE PLAYBACK FUNCTIONS
Navigation is amazingly quick and easy. Users can scan contents, zip fast-forward
or fast reverse in up to four steps, skip titles, pause, view in slow motion, and repeat
playback.
Note: CD-R/CD-RW DVD-R/DVD-RW playback: Discs may not be played back because of the
following reasons: recording characteristics of recorder/characteristics of disc/scratch and dust on
disc/dust and condensation on pickup lens or others.
CD-R/CD-RW playback: CD-R/CD-RW discs for audio recorded in CD Audio, Video CD or MP3 audio
format can be played back. Unfinalised discs except those in CD Audio formatting cannot be played
back. Time display may not be shown because the TOC (table-of-contents) information is lacking. You
can playback unfinalised discs in CD Audio format with limited function.
Note: When playing DTS-encoded (CDs, LDs, DVDs), excessive noise will be exhibited from the
analogue stereo outputs. To avoid possible damage to the audio system, the consumer should take
proper precautions when the analogue stereo outputs of the DVD player is connected to an
amplification system. To enjoy DTS Digital Surround™ playback, an external 5.1-channel DTS Digital
Surround™ decoder system must be connected to the digital output (S/PDIF, AES/EBU or TosLink) of
the DVD player.
Note: SuperVCD compatibility: Pioneer’s new DVD recorders support playback of the IEC’s Super
Video Compact Disc (SuperVCD) standard (IEC 62107). Compared to the VideoCD standard, SuperVCD
offers superior resolution and picture quality, and allows two stereo soundtracks on the disc.

PROGRAMMING SYSTEMS
Pioneer’s DVD recorders can record broadcasts just like a
traditional VCR. With the convenient ShowView
®
system, all that
is required is the ShowView number* to automatically
programme the recording date, time and channel setting.
The PDC/VPS (Programme Delivery Control/Video Programming System)**
automatically adjusts the recording time so that even if a programme is not running
to schedule, the recording will still be accurate and complete. For PDC/VPS to work
properly, the correct announced time and date of the programme to be recorded
must be entered.
* To be found in TV guides, newspapers, etc.
** Availability depends on broadcasting station.
PICTURE QUALITY ADJUSTMENT FEATURES
The Video Adjust menu sets the picture quality for the built-in TV tuner and other
external inputs. To achieve the best possible recorded picture quality, changes can
be made to brightness and colour noise reduction. When watching TV or other
external sources, settings can be adjusted to the specific nature of the source.
There is a wide selection of pre-defined settings or it is possible to use the Video
Adjust menu to create individual customised settings.
AN ADVANCED MPEG VIDEO ENCODER
Advanced encoder technology guarantees stunning video. Combining Single-Pass
Variable Bit Rate Control with Multi-Resolution, Pioneer DVD recorders perform
ideal video image compression encoding for dramatically improved picture quality.
On ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording Mode)’ DVD-RW discs, multi-resolution
technology uses three-quarter and two-third resolution settings, in addition to full
and half-resolution. This means less abrupt changes in quality over longer
recording times.
BEST LEVEL VIDEO/AUDIO OUTPUT/INPUT
For the very best quality video output, all Pioneer DVD recorders feature RGB
output via Euro-SCART. They also include RGB input via Euro-SCART to ensure
superior quality video when recording from any source component. Via the RGB
video input on the Euro-SCART terminal, the video signals coming out of an
attached component (e.g. a set-top box) ensure the greatest quality of image.
Favourite moments can be seen in the highest image quality possible and matching
video input quality is easily selected.
CPRM (CONTENT PROTECTION FOR RECORDABLE MEDIA)
What is CPRM? CPRM is a content protection system required for the recording of
“copy once” broadcast programmes. CPRM stands for “Content Protection for
Recordable Media”. All Pioneer DVD recorders are CPRM compatible, which means
that you can record copy-once broadcast programmes but you cannot then make a
copy of those recordings. CPRM recordings can only be made on CPRM-compliant
DVD-RW discs formatted in ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording Mode)’, and CPRM
recordings can only be played on players that are specifically compatible with
CPRM.
